THE ESTATE

Farnley Estate is set on a private stretch of the River Tyne between Riding Mill and Corbridge, with trout lakes, woodland walks and a lagoon, all within a mile of river frontage. It is a place for serious fishing, but also for enjoying the water, the landscape and the rare sense of being completely removed from the everyday. At the heart of the estate is the salmon beat: lightly fished, secluded and laid out over productive fly water on the main Tyne, upstream of the Riding Mill fish pass.

The lakes bring another side to Farnley, with trout fishing, boating, paddle boarding, wild swimming and quiet afternoons spent on or beside the water. Fishing huts around the lakes provide sheltered places to pause, watch the water and think about the next cast.

Wildlife is part of daily life here. Deer, otters, kingfishers, osprey, cormorants and swans are all regular sights on the estate, alongside mature trees, rich birdlife and constantly changing water. At different times of year, the lakes and river also draw waterfowl, little grebe, wagtails, dippers, bats and summer insect life. A family of deer is often seen moving quietly through the estate, adding to the sense that Farnley is as much about the life around the water as the water itself.

Farnley feels alive in every direction, whether on the riverbank, by the lakes or walking through the estate and taking it all in. What makes it so special is the combination of everything together: the salmon beat, the trout lakes, the open water, the wildlife and the privacy. It is a magical place, not because it tries to be, but because it simply is.
