FISHING BEAT
Set on the River Tyne just downstream from Corbridge, Farnley is a long-established and carefully managed salmon beat. Family-run and lightly fished, it is reserved for a limited number of rods, allowing for space, privacy and a more considered day on the river.

The beat offers a classic Tyne mix of streams, glides and deeper holding pools, with attractive runs suited to both fly and spinner, alongside shallower water ideal for wading. Pump House Pool, Hut Pool, Dead Tree, Drift and Willow Pool together create a varied and rewarding stretch that can fish well across a range of heights and conditions throughout the season.

Over the years, Farnley has produced some of the largest salmon caught on the Tyne, with several fish over 30lb, salmon recorded up to 36lb and sea trout up to 19lb. Farlow’s Fish of the Year 2019 was landed here, underlining the quality and reputation of the beat. The River Tyne also regularly records the highest declared rod catch of salmon in England and Wales, with strong runs of salmon and sea trout passing through Farnley each year.

A fourth rod is retained by the estate for a small invitation-only syndicate, and on selected pre-booked dates one syndicate member may fish alongside a booked party. Individual guiding and casting instruction can be organised by separate arrangement.
Parking is available on the estate, with access to the portacabin, riverside shelter huts, and seasonal toilet facilities located beside the portacabin.
CATCH REPORTS

Farnley has built a strong and well-proven record for both salmon and sea trout, offering dependable sport across a range of conditions. Over the past ten seasons, the beat has averaged 68 salmon and 19 sea trout per year, reinforcing the River Tyne’s standing as one of the country’s most productive salmon rivers.

This performance is supported by the Tyne’s dependable migratory runs and by careful stewardship throughout the system, which together have helped sustain healthy catches over time. Farnley’s record speaks not only to consistency, but also to a long history of exceptional fish.
FISHING RULES AND SAFETY
Fishing at Farnley is principally by fly, although spinning may be permitted when conditions allow. Anglers are asked to fish with care and consideration, using barbless hooks where possible, together with knotless landing nets and appropriate unhooking tools. Eye protection should be worn at all times, and extra care should always be taken when wading, with wading sticks and flotation devices used where appropriate. All salmon are to be returned carefully and responsibly.
